Medium-to-large firms 'biggest users of cloud software'

Shortly after the International Data Corporation (IDC) announced the cloud-based services like online timesheet software have been adopted by many businesses, one of its leading figures has explained more about this growing technology.

David Bradshaw, European software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud services research manager at IDC, said in an interview that the heaviest cloud users tend to be firms employing between 500 to 999 people.

However, a lower percentage of companies are taking the technology as seriously as they could be, he added, with 44 per cent of this size range using it at optimum capacity.

"The cloud is an enormous market that's going to carry on growing and it's already used more widely than people often realise, because there're some things that people do that they don't think of as being cloud," commented Mr Bradshaw.

Data from ABI Research recently revealed that more than 143 million consumers took advantage of free or low-cost cloud computing applications last year.
