Data quality issues 'easier to see than to resolve'

IT professionals using cloud solutions like time tracking software have been told that while data quality issues are easy to identify in a business, they can be more problematic to resolve.

Two-thirds of organisations have implemented data governance procedures, a survey from Baseline Consulting revealed this month, showing a considerable improvement compared with previous studies.

However, Lance Mercereau, director of marketing and public relations at Rosslyn Analytics, said a data issue like duplicate payment - something which may be helped with accurate time billing software - is easier to identify than to address.

"The vast majority of technology companies are typically focused, vendors are focused, on the top line data," he commented.

"We want to help companies focus on the bottom line."

Just 28 per cent of procurement professionals polled by Rosslyn Analytics believe their spend data is complete and accurate, while 31 per cent had a low level of confidence in their organisation's data quality.
