Acas: Employees must avoid over-working

Bosses need to be sympathetic to the needs of their staff to ensure they are not working excessive hours, one employment expert has said.

Gill Trevelyan, head of good practice services at Acas, suggested that workers will not be fully engaged in their tasks if they are under too much stress.

Managers may find they can keep track of their employees' hours by using timesheet software, otherwise they may be affected by people producing sub-standard work.

"All businesses and organisations should be concerned with the health, work and wellbeing of their employees if they want them to give their best," explained Mrs Trevelyan.

She added that training is imperative to recognise these problems before they become too much of an issue.

The development of the UK's long hours culture could be putting employees' health at risk, Aviva Risk Management Solutions recently warned.
