Strong branding 'crucial' to business success

Branding is crucial to the success of a start-up business, an industry expert has highlighted.

Mark Batchelor, managing director of Markman OTW, believes corporate identity is essential before a company can be fully established.

"As companies grow and become more diverse, they often find they have issues of conflict between different parts of the business," he continued.

Mr Batchelor emphasised that many of the problems which arise early on in the process of setting up a business are because of an uncertain brand identity.

Therefore, enlisting the help of staff - and tracking their hours on time billing software - can be one means of putting together a firm plan for the company.

Small businesses are hoping to beat the recession by stepping up their sales and marketing strategies, a study from the Forum of Private Business has found.

More than half of those surveyed expect to increase their turnover in 2010.
