Graduate recruits 'lack time management skills'
An increasing number of employers are finding that graduates lack time management skills, according to a new survey from the CBI.
The group found that so-called "soft skills" are generally in short supply, suggesting that firms may need to make use of time tracking software.
Literacy and numeracy standards were also found to be below par, with the CBI calling for more to be done to improve the skills of those who have recently left university.
Richard Lambert, CBI director-general, commented: "Employers do not expect everyone to arrive at their door 'job ready', but at the very least they want young people who are literate and numerate and who have good employability skills."
He emphasised that graduates are not expected to be knowledgeable in all areas, but basic problem-solving and time management skills are imperative.
The CBI recently revealed that highly-skilled people are likely to be in demand as the UK recovers from the economic turmoil of recent months.
