Working Time Directive 'has negligible impact'
The government needs to withdraw its support for the Working Time Directive, according to one major organisation.
It will have a "negligible" impact on tackling negative practises within the country's workplaces, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) said.
Many companies have already decided to opt out of the directive, perhaps instead choosing to use time tracking software.
CIPD employee relations advisor Mike Emmott believes that the impact of the directive is unlikely to be able to reduce negative behaviour in UK businesses.
"We are, therefore, calling for its repeal in the context of the review currently being undertaken by the European Commission," he commented.
Earlier this month, the CIPD conference focused on how companies are able to both recruit and retain talent even amid difficult economic conditions.
The two-day event also looked into how an employed brand can be effective in attracting the right people to a job.
