Working Time Directive 'still up for debate'
The impact of the Working Time Directive is still very much up for debate, one employment expert has said.
Katy Nicholson, spokesperson for Keep Britain Working, suggested that the initial intention of the plans - to keep more people in employment -has not been met.
"Certainly, workers should be protected from exploitation, and a level playing field of employment law across Europe helps each EU economy compete on an equal basis," she commented.
Ms Nicholson believes that the legislation needs to be revisited so it does not restrict further development when it comes to time sheet management.
Protecting existing jobs is crucial while also trying to establish new ones, the expert identified, with people also needing the chance to innovate and develop their businesses.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, employers are concerned about recent employment legislation such as the Working Time and the Agency Workers regulations.
