Home working 'requires different applications'
Employers who enable some of their workers to operate from home need to realise they have different needs, it has been claimed.
Martin Saunders, marketing director at Claranet, said remote working requires the use of applications that may not necessarily be needed in the office.
"It's important to try and determine how and what kind of availability the user needs for that application," he highlighted.
For example, Mr Saunders said VoIP needs a high level of availability in comparison to applications such as Microsoft exchange, which in some cases can be used offline.
Understanding which applications are needed and how available they are will help a firm make steps towards having fully operational remote workers, he added.
Companies may find it beneficial to make use of time tracking software if they have employees working outside the office.
Small and medium-sized businesses are failing to recognise the link between productivity, innovation and competitive advantage that flexible working practices can offer, oneDrum recently suggested.
