Businesses recognising renewable energy benefits

The uptake of renewable energy among UK businesses is starting to improve, it has been suggested.

James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, believes the feed-in tariff scheme in particular has helped firms with their expense management.

"The feed-in tariff incentive scheme has significantly changed the financial cache, and it has certainly become much more attractive than it used to be," he continued.

Mr Murray highlighted that there are not only benefits in terms of expense management, but a company can also improve its public relations by being portrayed as eco-friendly.

Feed-in tariffs give homeowners and businesses the chance to produce their own energy that is then either used on-site or fed back into the grid.

According to a report by the Department for Energy and Climate Change, by 2020 the scheme will support over 750,000 small scale low-carbon electricity installations and will have saved seven million tonnes of CO2.
