Flexible working 'highly valued by employees'

Flexible working benefits such as the availability of online timesheets are more valuable to employees than bonuses, according to new research.

The option of working flexible hours or remotely are the most valuable perks among nearly half of employees (47 per cent) responding to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) survey.

These perks were rated above bonuses, which were only ranked as the most valued benefit by a fifth (19 per cent) of workers.

Both men and women value flexible benefits highly, the PwC poll showed, which was also seen as a more easily achievable long-term goal.

Head of human resource services at the consultancy Michael Rendell explained: "With bonuses unpredictable in uncertain economic conditions, employees are looking for broader benefits.

"Companies that can adapt to the UK's growing flexible working culture will be best placed to sustain morale and retain top talent."

Last week, union Unison's assistant policy officer Michelle Singleton explained that businesses that implement flexible working are reaping the benefits of introducing new measures.
