REC: Staff are crucial to recovery

Employers need to find value within their staff in order to navigate the economic recovery, it has been suggested.

With job cuts of great concern to the public sector at the moment, managers need to identify the strengths of their existing workforce, noted Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

"On the positive side, there are signs of increased hiring activity in the private sector which will provide important outlets for those … directly affected by the expenditure squeeze," he explained.

Firms may find that by enlisting the help of time tracking software that they are able to keep note of what their employees are doing, before acknowledging how to make them more effective.

Employer demand for new UK workers rose by one per cent in May compared to April, the latest results from the Reed Index show.
