Workers 'plan ways to watch World Cup'

Employers may find the need for time tracking software greater than ever over the coming weeks as workers are adamant they are going to watch World Cup matches.

New research from moneysupermarket.com found 42 per cent of employees will watch the matches online, while one in ten will turn to their smartphones.

In some cases, people will pretend they are attending meetings so they can slope off and go to the pub to watch a game.

Mike Wilson, manager of mobiles and broadband at moneysupermarket.com, said: "A significant number of people plan to get online to watch the tournament which will put a lot of strain on the office network and internet speeds."

He even suggested showing matches on a TV in the office to reduce the need for workers to make up excuses, leaving others in the lurch.

Many big name companies, such as Asda and McDonald's, have put flexible working conditions in place to allow employees to enjoy the World Cup.
