Cloud computing 'needs infrastructure support'
Firms implementing online timesheet software should consider the back-end support needed to make cloud computing work, according to a white paper provided by CIO.co.uk.
Changes to infrastructure need to be made together with other data centre resources, like storage, in order to fully make use of the benefits of cloud computing, the white paper states.
David Bradshaw, research manager of European software-as-a-service and cloud services at Interactive Data Corporation, said that although the ground rules for cloud computing are in place, there are some "curious gaps".
"With infrastructure as a service, the responsibility is switched around to you for security and compliance because you are effectively using a managed, hosted server or storage unit," he commented.
Cloud computing was recently named among the top new trends in business by consultancy Accenture, although it also warned that thorough IT testing of new systems was necessary to ensure a business will continue to operate.
