Flexible working 'can help improve productivity'

Flexible working has many benefits for firms of various sizes, it has been suggested.

Hugo Harber, director of convergence and network strategy at Star, highlighted that companies may find their productivity increases as a result.

"This obviously reduces travel but also reduces your office footprint which is at an average cost of £5,000 per annum, per desk, in rent, utilities, hardware and management," he continued.

Mr Harber emphasised that there are tools that people can use remotely such as phones and email to make their jobs easier, while employers can keep note using time tracking software.

Integrated conferencing and collaboration tools can prove highly advantageous to a business, providing they are utilised effectively, the expert added.

Unified communications (UC) can help small businesses reduce travel costs through the use of web-based applications like video conferencing, instant messaging and VoIP, IT Pro recently revealed.

It also discovered that many leading technology and telecommunications players are now offering UC solutions for businesses.
