Broadband networks need govt to act swiftly
More needs to be done to ensure the security and reliability of the UK's broadband networks, an expert has claimed.
Andrew Ferguson, editor at thinkbroadband.com, emphasised that the country is currently in a position where it can play catch-up with other nations, but this might not be the case for long.
"The risk is not really that we will have to wait a few extra minutes for material to download, but that new content services will simply not appear in the UK for some years," he commented.
This may have an impact on those using online timesheets, for example, as Mr Ferguson highlighted that corporate finances may be affected.
Secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt recently announced a package of measures designed to drive a nationwide technological upgrade.
This included confirming plans for three market testing projects to bring super-fast broadband to rural areas.
