Businesses urged to be flexible with new mums

Flexible working conditions are necessary for any new mother, so companies must do their best to accommodate them, it has been said.

Jane Hopkins, founder of Mumsclub, the UK's only business club for mums, emphasised that some smaller firms can find it difficult to be flexible.

However, by enlisting the help of time tracking software, firms could give mothers the opportunity to work from home, for example.

Ms Hopkins explained that some mothers return to work only to find conditions "being changed so much in their absence that they feel no option than to give it all up to focus on their families".

This can create problems for some women who are then ready to go back to work once their child goes to school, but unable to find suitable employment, she added.

According to findings from the CBI, activity in UK financial services grew in the last three months at the fastest rate since September 2007.
