Alternative technology the key to superfast broadband?

Alternative technology could hold the key to rolling out superfast broadband, an industry expert has proposed.

Michael Phillips, product director of Broadbandchoices.co.uk, emphasised that fixed lines may not do the job that people expect, which could hinder the use of online timesheets, for example.

"It is a case of the government looking at frequencies and what is possible in terms of approaching broadband in a different way," he explained.

Mr Phillips stressed that there are also alternative places where fibre optic cables can be laid, rather than digging up roads and causing disruption in major cities such as London.

According to an article published by the Guardian, the government will hold a summit on Thursday July 15th to discuss ways of introducing high-speed internet access across the country.

Jeremy Hunt, secretary of state for culture, olympics, media and sport, will ask communications providers for ideas on how to give every home access to a basic broadband connection, it reported.
