Emergence of cloud computing 'accompanied by new security threats'
The security of time tracking software and other cloud computing services could become a growing concern for public sector IT networks.
Increasingly complex virtualised threats have accompanied the growth of cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS), according to research by IDC Government Insights.
The analysis firm's research manager for the Asia-Pacific region, Janet Chiew, underlined how governments in her area were beginning to recognise the need to protect data exposed over public networks.
She explained: "To combat international cyber terrorism, Asia-Pacific public sectors need to continually address the disclosure, archival and ownership of data surrounding web 2.0 and social media, as well as increase collaborations at national and global levels."
Earlier this week, internet security provider Webroot warned that more care needs to be taken by people posting information on social media platforms.
