Firms must invest in training, says expert
Training staff on a continuous basis is essential for both firms and their staff, it has been claimed.
Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at the Chartered Management Institute, emphasised that other countries tend to invest more heavily in development than in the UK.
He explained: "It is the ongoing professional development that counts.
"The way a manager learns about this has to be directly relevant to their place of work."
Mr Petrook highlighted that just one in five managers in the UK is professionally qualified, therefore emphasising the need for effective training strategies.
According to the quarterly Employee Outlook survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, employees continue to be positive in their attitudes towards their immediate line managers.
It did find, however, that employees are least likely to say their manager always or usually coaches them on the job.
