Yorkshire council workers take record sick days
Council workers in Yorkshire have been identified as among the worst in the country for taking sick days, emphasising the need for time tracking software.
Figures obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show that in some local authorities, staff are taking more than two-and-a-half weeks off each.
This is more than double the amount seen from private sector workers.
Collectively, these sick days cost Britons £10.4 million last year alone, as the county averaged at 12.73 days being taken off per worker.
Director of people and performance improvement in Doncaster Kay Leigh said: "The council has a clear written policy for managing staff sickness absence, and for taking decisive action to reduce absence levels in order to minimise disruption of services."
The government recently launched a consultation on whether right to train regulations are proving to be a burden for UK firms, with a view to withdraw them if necessary.
