IT 'has become crucial to businesses'

Unlike in previous recessions, IT has proved crucial for cost-cutting during the recent economic downturn.

This is according to Gerry McLaughlin of ITContractor.com, who explained that it has been used to reduce overheads and has become crucial for companies.

He continued: "This is great news for those that work in the industry, especially for IT contractors, as it has suddenly made the industry far less risky."

This may offer some comfort to small business software users, who have been called upon for their expertise over the past few months.

Mr McLaughlin highlighted that firms did not want to be lagging behind their rivals in terms of what software they used, so will be constantly on the lookout for the latest technological advancements.

Research released by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, shows that its members believe government should accelerate investment in public service IT.
