Internet usage on the rise

Internet usage across the UK has continued to grow over the past few years, the Office for National Statistics has revealed.

Its 2010 Internet Access Survey shows 30.1 million adults in the UK now go online either every day or nearly every day, which is nearly double the estimate made in 2006.

Nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of households have internet access, with 31 million people buying goods or services online.

Furthermore, the majority (91 per cent) of those in managerial or professional positions have used the internet at some point, which may include online timesheet users.

Estimates so far for 2010 suggest that there are currently 38.3 million internet users in the UK, which equates to around 77 per cent of the population.

More than eight out of ten PC Advisor readers believe broadband access is not good enough in the UK, a recent poll found.
