Study: Broadband users frustrated by advertising

The majority of broadband users in the UK believe providers are both confusing and misleading in their advertising, the results of a survey show.

Virgin Media found this to be the case for nine out of ten consumers after commissioning research from ICM, showing that 'up to' speed claims are some of the most frustrating.

Jon James, executive director of broadband, at Virgin Media said: "People are paying for faster and faster broadband but being ripped off by unscrupulous providers who can't deliver their promised speeds to even a single customer."

He emphasised that a change in advertising is needed so that online timesheet users and other internet customers do not feel misled by the claims.

Virgin Media has therefore committed to publishing its broadband speeds on a monthly basis in order to give people greater confidence in its service.

Last month, the company launched a malware defence campaign to help its customers protect themselves against cyber attacks.
