Data management 'must be a priority'

Firms cannot afford for their systems to be improperly managed, an expert has informed business management software users.

Joseph Feiman, a researcher for Gartner, emphasised that data management procedures are often lacking for many companies.

"Mature enterprise security requires interaction and correlation of different security technologies to increase accuracy and breadth of security detection, remediation and protection," he told Computer Weekly.

Mr Feiman identified that any approach to information must include managing security risks, as this will help a company make sound business decisions.

It may include the more effective detection of risks and greater protection against potential attacks, the expert added.

The number of students studying computing is declining across the UK, with a fall of 33 per cent in three years in the number of ICT GCSE students, Royal Society figures show.

It believes the problem is down to how the subject is presented in schools.
